Ruby Bridges' Walk to School Day 11-14-25

Ruby Bridges

The Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day is an annual event held on November 14 to honor Ruby Bridges, who, at just six years old in 1960, became the first Black child to integrate an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. Her courageous walk into William Frantz
Elementary, escorted by federal marshals amid protests, marked a pivotal moment in the
Civil Rights Movement. This day serves as a reminder of the strength and resilience required to challenge segregation and the importance of standing up for equality and justice.

At USC, the walk was celebrated in the gymnasium for grades K–5, creating a safe and inclusive space for students to participate despite weather concerns. The event encouraged students to reflect on Ruby’s bravery while promoting messages of kindness, inclusion, and anti-racism.
